Summer Service
Friday, April 6, 2012 at 9:03AM Looking to keep your club active in the summer? Here are some summer service ideas that might help!
Club Bonding:
- Take a trip down the river; go tubing with your club members. You can find very reasonably priced places to go where it’s only $5-$10 to tube. If you can’t find a nearby river, you can always head to your neighborhood pool!
-Get a big group together and play games. After all, it will tie in perfectly with our district theme this year!
-Host a club bonfire.
Service Projects:
-Help out at your county fair. It’s a great way to have fun interacting with the people in your community and you could potentially begin fundraising for next year.
-Host a Ronald McDonald supper. It’s not only a great way to have fun with the members of your club but it’s a great way to interact with the families who are staying at the Ronald McDonald house.
-Ask your local Kiwanis if they would be willing to host a pancake feed. It’s a lot of work to undertake, but it will definitely help raise funds for the next school year!
-Clean up the neighborhood beach that is now your summer hotspot!
- Go to local nursing homes and do craft activities with the residents.
-Get your school ready for the new, incoming students. Ask your principal if you could put up welcome signs around the school before the first day of class.

Spring Convention
Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 10:55AM Spring Convention will happen the weekend of April 20-22, 2012. This weekend is when the Key Clubs of our district come together for fun times. There are a variety of forums to attend, a wonderful speaker, and a dance on Saturday night. All forums are facilitated by your 2011-2012 district board! Throughout the weekend, everyone wears nice dress clothes which add an element of fun. Saturday evening is the formal Governor's Ball. At this time, awards will be presented to clubs that placed in a particular category as well as talent competition awards. This year we welcome Lucy McDermott, our International Trustee! With all the people and activities happening this weekend, you won't want to miss out! Hope to see everyone in April.
What forums are being held at Spring Convention?
This year our forums are going to be based on service, education and officer training. When you come to Spring Convention, we will have president, vice president, secretary, publicist, treasurer and general member forums that explain the duties and expectations of the various leadership positions. Also, this year we’ll be having forums based on service projects. You’ll get to be hands on in helping organizations! We are also adding a service fair to the convention this year. Does your club have a signature activity in your school that is a great fundraiser or helps publicize your club? If you do, you can showcase your project at the service fair. We’re also having an ELIMINATE walk at Spring Convention for the first time. All of the above information will also be in the spring mailing that your club will receive in a few weeks.

Live 2 Learn
Monday, January 16, 2012 at 1:33PM Live 2 Learn was one of Key Club International’s service initiatives from 2008-10 year and has been extended on in time.
Live 2 Learn focuses on the personal development and social interaction of children.
Live 2 Learn is the hands on service element to the MEP (Major Emphasis Program).
Live 2 Learn focuses on helping children, ages 5-9, overcome learning obstacles so they can be successful and give back to their home, school and community.
Key Club members can help young children learn through mentoring, making friends and working together. Key Club members can serve in three areas; improving grades, giving back, and growing together. Key Clubbers are encouraged to mentor, tutor and help children with reading skills to help improve grades. To give back, members are working with primary schools to coordinate service projects that young students can participate in to teach youth how they can be lifelong servant leaders. By stimulating imagination and learning through their experiences members are sparking growth in children so that they may grow together.
Club Officer Elections
Monday, January 16, 2012 at 1:32PM The time is drawing near for you to step away from your position as your Key Club’s officer and move on with your journey in Key Club. To the graduating senior officers, congratulations! I hope that Key Club has served you well in your four years of high school. To all the underclassmen officers, it’s once again time for officer elections!
Key Club International suggests that officer elections take place in February. I would suggest that you start telling your members about elections now. Tell prospective officers to start coming to officer meetings and make sure to go over officer job descriptions before anyone is elected onto your club board. A lot of times, members will get voted in and not know what they’re supposed to be doing. If a club officer doesn’t know what they’re doing, how can they and your club be successful? A great resource that is always available is the Key Club International Website (keyclub.org). This link: http://keyclub.org/Leadership/ls/cl.aspx has short job descriptions for each officer position and links to an even more in-depth description of the job. Also, new committee chairs should also be elected at this time.
Good luck to everyone in their club elections!
