Key Club Vocabulary

These are terms repeatedly used in Key Club, it might be good to know them!

 

KCI: Key Club International

KC: Key Club

CKI: Circle K International (Kiwanis for college students)

DCON: District Leadership Conference. This event is held once a year in the in every District. The new District Board is elected for the next Key Club Term. Key Cub members have an opportunity to listen to Keynote Speakers, engage in Officer Training, and enjoy roundtable discussions. This event typically takes place in March. To learn more, go here

ICON: International Convention. It's an event International Key Club hold in July. This event includes every District and is a place to meet and collaborate with other members of Key Club. This event elects new international officers, goes over accomplishments that the international board achieved from the previous term, as well as debating and potentially set policies for the upcoming term. LTG: LTG stands for Lieutenant Governor. This person serves on the District Board and is in charge of one division within the District. They are your "go-to" for anything as a club. They hold monthly DCM’s as well as a yearly divisional rally. Each LTG serves on District Committees.

KEY: KEY stands for Kiwanis Educates Youth, which is why we’re called Key Club. Another reason why Key Club is called "Key Club" because there was a small group of boys that started the entire thing in Sacramento who called themselves the "key boys."

DCM: DCM stands for Divisional Council Meeting, which is a meeting that is generally conducted monthly between a divisional Lieutenant Governor and the club officers in their division.

Caucusing: A procedure of questioning that takes place when electing new members of office. 

Endorsement: Typically for international office. To be endorsed means that public approval of ones continuing has been declared.

Business Professional: Refers to dress shirt, slacks, neck tie, sport or suit coat and appropriate shoes for males and dress or suite, skirt or slacks, blouse and appropriate shoes for females. 

Business Casual: Refers to slacks, collared shirt and appropriate shoes for males and slacks, skirt or skort, blouse or collared shirt and appropriate shoes for females.

Casual: Refers to shorts or jeans, collared shirts, sweatshirts or appropriate tee-shirts and casual footwear for males and shorts, skirt, skort or jeans, collared shirt, sweatshirt or appropriate tee-shirt and casual footwear for females.

BE: This abbreviation stands for Bulletin Editor. They are apart of the executive committee. This person is in charge of updating the website as well as posting on our social medias. They are the chair of PR, and the main source of communication with outside of the District Board.

Gov: Gov is frequently interchangeably used with the word Governor. This is the head of the District Board.

Treasurer: The District Treasurer is in charge of all of the District Finances and helps regulate District membership.

Secretary: The District Secretary records the District Boards Meeting Minutes and consistently updates and checks the District Bylaws.

MinnDak District: A shortened form of the Minnesota-Dakotas District.
