Service in the Summer

Service in the Summer

Summer is here! While your local club might not be meeting as much over the summer, that doesn’t mean service has to stop! The summer offers lots of opportunities to serve your community.

On your own you could volunteer at your local food pantry. After COVID, some food pantries and soup kitchens are having a hard time finding people to help them run their nonprofit successfully. You could also volunteer to walk dogs at a local animal shelter, go hiking and pick up any trash you see along the way, and make hygiene bags that include soap, a wash cloth, and other personal hygiene products and give the bags to a local homeless shelter.

You could also get a group of friends to serve together this summer! You all could get together and host a car wash and give the donations to a nonprofit of your choice, make tie blankets together and pick a crisis center to send them to, write cards to residents in nursing homes.

You can also spread kindness to strangers by starting a pay-it-forward chain, restocking little free pantries, painting rocks with encouraging messages and hiding them around your town, going out of your way to hold the door for someone, and making sure to smile :)
