Running for the District Board

How can you join the board?

The Process

Becoming a board member takes some work! Firstly, alert your Lieutenant Governor (LTG) sometime between January and District Convention (DCON) that you are interested in running for the position.

Although it isn't required to become a member, you should go to DCON to be elected as that is the preferred and typical channel used when taking on a district leadership position.

Before DCON you should submit your statement of candidacy (included in the Candidate Packet) in order to be featured in the Candidate's Booklet at the event - you may submit this at DCON as well, you just won't be featured on the preprinted booklet. You will also likely be asked to send a biosketch, and your current LTG can send you examples!

When arriving at DCON you'll be asked to give a speech that lasts roughly two minutes in front of your division. You will be voted on and, if you win the election, sworn in at DCON later on during the event.

You can also run for an executive position at DCON but the likelihood of winning the election against a former / current LTG is highly unlikely, therefore it is highly irregular to do so.

While being a LTG is a large workload, an executive position is even larger. When running for LTG or Executive, recognize the workload you're agreeing to take on!

If there is a vacancy mid-term and you're interested in holding said position, tell your LTG and they'll help you get in contact with the board and go through the process of a late election.

For any questions about running for office, you can email the Elections Committee for assistance!
