Dues
A Guide to Dues in MinnDak
What Are Dues?
Dues are what keep this International organization running! They pay for publications put forth by Key Club International, MinnDak District events and materials, and club officer training. All of this costs money, and since all members benefit from these things, all members are thereby required to give a little bit of money at the beginning of each year. Anyone that is a member of a club and would like to receive the benefits of being a Key Club member (including putting in on a transcript for college) must pay their dues. All Key Club members are volunteers, and Key Club District Board members are not being paid for any of their work.
How Do Dues Work?
Key Club dues in the MinnDak District, per person annually, are at least $12.50. 7 dollars go to Key Club International, and the other $5.50 go to the MinnDak District. Additionally, as a club, each Key Club can charge an additional amount that they find reasonable on top of that $12.50. This amount will be decided by the club board each year, and will go only to the club. It WILL NOT appear on the club invoice, and DOES NOT need to be submitted. Only the $12.50 charged by Key Club International and the District must be submitted. If these dues are not submitted by the deadline, unpaid Key Clubs will be suspended, and will no longer be considered in good standing. If dues are not paid for three years straight, that club will no longer be an official club that is recognized by the District.
How To Pay Dues (For Club Officers and Advisors)!
1. Decide on how much your club is going to ask each member to pay to keep your Key Club running (Note: this may be obvious, but none of the money should go to advisors or officers) For example, Mayo High School Key Club in Rochester, Minnesota charges $15 per member ($12.50 to send in to Key Club International and $2.50 for club events)
2. At the beginning of the year, explain to all Key Club members the importance of paying dues! They keep the club running, and keep it from being put on Suspended Status. Collect these dues from all club members (if possible).
3. Log into your Kiwanis International account. Each Key Club has its own username and password to log in. Please contact the District with any concerns regarding accounts. Once inside the Kiwanis International account, you will be able to register the number of Key Clubbers from your club that have paid dues in the tab labeled “Dues and Reports”. From there, you can submit payment online. Sign in at: https://members.portalbuzz.com/Member/User/Login?skin=kiwanis
4. Once step 3 is completed, print out an invoice, write a check to Key Club International (with the total amount collected in dues), and send the two together to Key Club International.

*Do not send them to your District Treasurer, as they will not be able to accept your money.
What happens when a club fails to pay dues?
If clubs do not pay dues, they will receive one of the following titles:
Delinquent Status: After December 1st, if district and international dues are not paid, a club is automatically placed in this category, and considered “not in good standing.” Unless their dues are paid prior to February 1st, they are then placed on Suspended Status. Clubs will not be able to have access to events like Fall Rally and DCON until they have gotten out of that status by paying dues.
Suspended Status: If district or international dues have not been paid for the year, or a club is not meeting or conducting any activities, they will be considered “suspended.” All clubs placed in this category are scheduled to have their charters revoked at the next International Convention, and have all mail usually sent to the club stopped.
Revoked Status: Any club that has been suspended, and not reactivated by Key Club International Convention, will have its charter revoked by an international board action. This will have to be approved by the Kiwanis International Board action in the fall, leaving until September 30th for a club to be reactivated.
Important Dates:
October 1: First Payment Date
November 1: Early Bird Deadline
December 1: Regular Dues Deadline
February 1: Drop Dead Dues Date (unpaid clubs will be suspended)
